As a Man Thinketh
CHARLOTTE MASON VOLUME 5 : Formation Of Character: CHAPTER 1, PART 8
There’s no shortage of stories about people who have overcome immense difficulties to achieve the extraordinary. Most successful people say they could envision success in their mind’s eye before it became a reality.
Our thoughts control our actions and even our bodies. Many times, we experience what we expect, whether positive or negative.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Just like the little engine, we may need to remind ourselves that we can do it. We may need to remind our children that they can learn to read . We may need to replace the discouraging internal voice with a positive one.
“He who says he can and he who. says he can't, are both usually right”
Confucius
People often forget that the body and mind work closely together. When we think about something, our bodies can react without consciously deciding to. If we think our work is unimportant, we’ll probably be demotivated and exhausted every morning.
“Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'.”
Viktor E. Frankl
Let’s approach this week differently. Let’s anticipate the good and embrace the beautiful. Let’s address that project we've been putting off. Let’s wake up energised. And, just like that little engine, let’s affirm, "I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I know I can."
